Background

Ben is a highly experienced and respected mediator and arbitrator dedicated to guiding parties through complex legal challenges toward efficient and equitable resolutions. With more than 20 years of experience in complex commercial litigation and over six years serving as a neutral, Ben has successfully facilitated settlement discussions in a wide array of lawsuits, including intricate business disputes, civil claims by government agencies, and cases involving severe personal injuries.

Before dedicating his practice to dispute resolution, Ben built a distinguished career as a commercial litigator, representing clients in diverse and high-stakes cases across various state and federal courts. His experience encompasses all aspects of litigation, from developing case strategy and drafting pleadings to conducting depositions and negotiating settlements. That background provides an invaluable perspective as a neutral because it allows him to understand the various factors that drive parties to seek resolution, allowing him to approach each mediation and arbitration with an informed, strategic, and empathetic mindset.

In addition to his extensive practical experience, Ben teaches courses on dispute resolution and negotiations as an adjunct professor at two top-tier law schools—the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University and the University of Georgia Law School. In these roles, he imparts critical knowledge on negotiation theories, strategies, skills, and various dispute resolution processes, including mediation, arbitration, and less common forms of dispute resolution, such as early neutral evaluation of cases, structured dialogue to facilitate better communication between parties, and the use of private judges to resolve disputes. Ben’s teaching experience not only keeps him at the forefront of dispute resolution theory but also underscores his ability to clearly communicate complex concepts and foster productive discussions.

Ben is admitted to the State Bar of Texas and more than twenty federal district, circuit, and bankruptcy courts.  He has been consistently recognized for his legal acumen, earning distinctions such as Best Lawyers in America, Lawdragon 500 Leading Litigators in America, and Texas Super Lawyers.

Ben’s comprehensive background in litigation, coupled with his deep commitment to education and his proven track record as a neutral, make him an exceptional choice for your mediation, arbitration, and dispute resolution needs. He is dedicated to helping parties navigate disagreements with professionalism, integrity, and a focus on achieving optimal outcomes.
